![]() This fact takes us to a continuity on the way of learning and working of the musicians, changed little by little by questions related to a predominance of writing and printing. Through the musical analysis of this pieces built over a Cantus Firmus, and the critical reading of Iberian music treatises from the sixteenth century in what concerns the counterpoint, we will see how the musical improvisational practices, founded in a large set of counterpoint techniques used by sixteenth century musicians, are clearly demonstrated in musical pieces from the seventeenth century. Belonging to this collection are three manuscripts - MM 52, MM 236 and MM 243 - where we can find a set of pieces named Concertados. ![]() ![]() The musical fund of the Biblioteca Geral da Universidade de Coimbra contains a unique collection of printed and manuscript music from the sixteenth and seventeeth centuries.
